Why should we create sanctuary and what does it mean anyway?

Sanctuary has been much on my mind. But in truth, the concept of sanctuary is always on my mind. Having a peaceful space around us truly does inspire peace inside us. And don’t we all need some peace right now?

Someone recently asked me, but how does it work?

Here is the way I see it. We intentionally create a sacred space outside ourselves because it provides a doorway to the sacred space that we all carry inside ourselves. That created space outside of us provides a backdrop to our inner work, our efforts to delve within ourselves to discover our truth. What else might be hiding there? Purpose, harmony and a deep sense of joy and gratitude. Looking inside ourselves allows us to discover and unlock our own inner treasure chest. And the bonus is that we get to know who we really are and why we’re here on this Earth.

Can a space or a room really do that for us?

My answer is yes, if we are willing to do the work. To apply the effort. To plumb the depths of our being. And maybe this time of self-isolation and quarantine is an invitation for us to embark on that journey — the journey of self.

I created a Quick Start Guide to Sanctuary last weekend — a one page document to give you the simple steps to creating sanctuary for yourself. If you are part of our sanctuary community, I emailed it to you this morning. If you are not yet part of our community, sign up with your email address and we’ll send it out to you right away as our gift to you for joining us.

As human beings, we’re on a wild ride right now. But sanctuary can help us not only navigate these stormy waters, but to thrive while we’re doing it. I hope you’ll join me on this sanctuary journey. We have work to do and light to shine back into the world.

One other bonus for this amazing moment in time is that we have created a private Facebook group that we are calling the Sanctuary Collective. I love the thought that we have a place where we can gather as a community to share, to ask questions, to inspire each other. I have all kinds of wonderful ideas of things to post there and I would be so excited and honored if you would be willing to be part of our group. We will explore creating a sanctuary for each other and for ourselves online — kind of perfect, especially now. Check out the Sanctuary Collective now.

How are you doing over there? Please check in with me below. I would love to hear.

With love and gratitude,

Lisa
