Hug O' War

I went to a gathering at a local hotel last night for our Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting. It was the first time I’ve been in a group setting where no one was wearing masks and everyone was laughing, talking, connecting and — wait for it — hugging!

I LOVE HUGGING.

Who knew I could take something so simple for granted?

Considering this as I sip my coffee this morning, I am reminded of one of my favorite Shel Silverstein poems. I used to read it to my kids and they would giggle:

I will not play at tug o’ war
I’d rather play at hug o’ war
Where everyone hugs
Instead of tugs
Where everyone giggles
And rolls on the rug,
Where everyone kisses
And everyone grins
And everyone cuddles
And everyone wins.

Last night, everyone won. We all left smiling, with happy hearts and happy arms that had been full at last. Be warned: if you see me personally in the next week or two, I may just grab you and wrap my arms around you. I’ve a deficit to fill.

It seems to be time to live our sanctuary philosophy out in the world for awhile.

How are you doing out there? Are you feeling a bit better? Freer? What are you doing that you have been restricted from doing in the past months? I’d love to hear. Share with me in the comments below.

With love, hugs and gratitude,

Lisa
